Keep Your Pets Safe on Halloween

Halloween can be an extremely dangerous time for your pets. Don't leave your pets outside on Halloween night. There are people who might try to tease, injure, steal, torture or even kill your pet. Also, your dog or cat coule potentially scare trick-or-treaters as they come up to your house. Here are some tips to keep your pets safe on Halloween:

smpaw (1K) Keep Your Pets Safe on Halloween #1: Even if your dog and cat is begging for some of your Halloween candy, remember that chocolate can be fatal to them.

smpaw (1K) Keep Your Pets Safe on Halloween #2: This is the time of year that is extremely dangerous for black cats. Most Humane Society's won't allow adoptions of black cats right before or right after Halloween because some people might want to "sacrifice" them.

smpaw (1K) Keep Your Pets Safe on Halloween #3: Remember that the foil wrappers on Halloween candy can get stuck in your pets digestive tract or in their throat if they are ingested which can make them sick or even cause their death.

smpaw (1K) Keep Your Pets Safe on Halloween #4: Place your lighted Jack-O-Lanterns out of reach from your dog's tail and your curious cat. They could easily burn their paws or tails or maybe even start a fire if they accidently knock over a candle used for the lighting.

smpaw (1K) Keep Your Pets Safe on Halloween #5: Unless your pet is receptive to the idea of a costume, don't dress them up. If your pet doesn't mind a costume, pick one that is comfortable and doesn't interfere with their vision. Animals depend on their vision to let them know what's going on and even the nicest dog or cat can get snippy if they can't see what's around them.

smpaw (1K) Keep Your Pets Safe on Halloween #6: If you are hosting a party in your home, consider putting your dog or cat in a separate room during the party. Unless your pet is extremely friendly and doesn't mind noise, music and lots of people, they will be safer and less frightened in a separate room.

Both you and your pets have a safe and Happy Halloween!
