It is much better to let dogs know when they have done something well rather than bad and clicker training can also be used to eliminate bad dog behavior. Most trainers will verbally praise a dog for good behavior, while at the same time motivating the dog to repeat his actions - this can be a good method, however it takes longer for the dog to understand which behaviors and actions caused the praise from the trainer. In normal training, a person would say "good boy" when a welcomed action occurs and proceed with giving a treat - the clicker becomes a substitute for verbal praise and can actually catch the "good boy" behavior quicker than saying it, letting the dog know exactly which behavior he is being rewarded for.

Clicker training doesn't involve any forms of punishment if the dog doesn't do as it is told, because it will know that it will not get the reward. The dog will quickly learn that the sound of the clicker is followed by a reward and they will respond to commands when the clicker is used knowing that a reward is

When the command that you are training your puppy requires the aid of treats, it is advisable that the treats should be placed in a closed fist so that the dog can only smell but not see them - when the dog sees the treat before you give the command, he will learn only to obey when you have a food in your hands. Positive dog obedience training is quickly becoming the preferred method of dog training - this method of training is possible for just about every young dog. It is important to consider the emotional state of your dog in directing the training because if your dog is distracted or stressed, the training will not be effective as your dog will not learn efficiently.
