The first command your dog should learn is "sit" - you must use the word sit while teaching him so that he can relate the word with the action - start by gently pushing his backside down and saying the word "sit", eventually he will catch on to the concept. An effective, not excessive, reward system will produce quicker results as your puppy achieves higher levels of success. Dog obedience training is definitely a breeze with the proper attitude of the dog owner and under proper conditions. Instead of forcing your dog into a sit position, bring a tasty treat above and then back over his head until he sits back to get it.

Like people, dogs have unique personalities none of which are the same, and it is a good trainer that will take the time to figure out the dog before trying to figure out how to best approach introducing basic obedience. Be sure that you reward your puppy when it reacts positively to the training.
