Dogs With An Upset Stomach

Two of the most common reasons for pet owners to take their dog's to the veterinarian is symptoms of an upset stomach , such as diarrhea and vomiting. Typically, the cause of the dog's upset stomach is they have eaten something that doesn't agree with them, such as small pieces of wood or maybe they have visited their favorite garbage can.

Dog's with an upset stomach caused by a diet change or stress will very likely have mild symptoms and continue to be lively and not moping around then typically the upset stomach can easily be treated at home.

It is not recommended to treat a dog's upset stomach at home if your dog is acting lethargic, the diarrhea is severe and the vomiting continuous. If this is the situation, your dog may get dehydrated fairly quickly and will most likely require IV fluids from a veterinarian. If you have a puppy, it is extremely important to remember how quickly this situation can become critical.

If your dog does have a mild form of an upset stomach, make a note of the time and day just in case you need to follow up with a visit to the veterinarian then you'll know exactly when the problem started. You will also want to make a note of whether the vomit is mostly fluid or if it's something they just ate that didn't sit right with their stomach. If your dog is small, they can become dehydrated rapidly so you might not want to put off the visit to the veterinarian.

If your pet has a mild upset stomach , you could try and feed them rice and boiled chicken instead of their regular food to try and calm their stomach. You can try and give them water, if they can't hold that down then try ice chips to keep them hydrated. If your dog is vomiting for more than one day or the vomiting is excessive, take them to your veterinarain immediately.
