By Jayme Hanson
Originally used to train marine mammals, click and treat breaks down the process into two separate steps, information and motivation - the click is the information, the treat is the motivation. At first, by repeating the click and treat several times will familiarize your to the clicking sound, while teaching him that every time he hears it, he has done something good - after he gets the hang of it, begin by adding commands, such as “sit” and “stay. Clicker training is actually a form of positive reinforcement for the dog and this will help it bond and build a better relationship with it's owner.

The first step in clicker training is go to your favorite pet supply store and invest in a clicker - the clicker is nothing fancy and should just cost you under five dollars. One advantage to using the click and treat form of training

Positive training leads to your dog wanting to please you and it will learn a lot faster. Instead of forcing your dog into a sit position, bring a tasty treat above and then back over his head until he sits back to get it. The first command your dog should learn is "sit" - you must use the word sit while teaching him so that he can relate the word with the action - start by gently pushing his backside down and saying the word "sit", eventually he will catch on to the concept.
